Quotes from knowledgable people over at OSNews (I think they're right):

"It's not really worth spending $10 on Opera for BeOS IMO. And it's not like it's going to make opera realize that it's worth porting their recent version to BeOS either.
Opera 3.64 has a lot of issues that was never fixed, it's very unstable and outdated.
Download Firebird instead, it's slower but it's a lot better and free."

and

"I second that. The Opera port on BeOS is _really_ bad. It should have being given away for free (and even then I wouldn't use it over Net+ or the half-ported Firebird)."

InternetExplorer, Netscape Navigator, Firebird, and others are free. Who pays for a browser any more?

I've seen postings around where BeOS users want to purchase Opera licenses at lower cost. That is why I posted this, because now they can.

You like free and slow copyware and nobody blames you for that.

If you want fast go Opera 7 for Linux or Windows and get Opera 3.x for BeOS for free.

Who knows if Opera will port to BeOS or Zeta, my guess it is up to YelloTab. Let's hope they do not settle for SLOW and FREE copyware. Why should they, everything else is non (copy-) opensource software.

well, i'm gonna get it...i havent had a single problem with opera on my BeOS, and it's definitely proven faster on my trusty P1 than anything else...i'm thrilled. Thank you!
I am curious, though...bob, you mentioned netscape...i'm not aware of a beos netscape port..if there were i'd certainly use it.
or are you just using it as an example , like the IE (cuz i know theres sure not gonna be any IE port for BeOS :), i don't even have to check on that one! hahaha....

Yep, just an example. Generally speaking, browsers are all Freeware regardless of which operating system, Windows, BeOS, Linux, Mac, QNX, whatever.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Nice of Opera to at least give a discount, but I got to say its probably not worth even that. Firebird 0.7 is faster than Opera on my computer and its modern so I can do banking etc. Unfortunately Firebird is still bit flakey in rendering some websites. But then Opera is also. Opera for beos couldnt even render some pages on the Opera website. Thats funny or sad or both.

How soon they forget.

Opera did a lot for BeOS users. Sure some claim they abandoned us but for me I think it is a welcome and good offer.

Hmmm, yeah, browsers pretty much are all freeware now..i's true..and you know why? Because of certain questionable business tactics by certain companies, causing the majority of those for-profit companies to have to abandon the sale of those browsers. It seems that this is a point that should be particularly evident to BeOS users, given it's recent history.....
And, you know, I bought my copy of netscape 3 with cold hard cash, way back when....must say the books with it were handy...
