Comment:
hello, there is no floopy drive in my laptop, and i can't boot cds(i can boot rarely with some cds, but mostly not) And, i don't have windows installed... Is there any way i can install BeOS from linux and boot it?(i know about the BeOS4linux.tar.gz package) maybe, instructions to boot from dos (i am able to boot from a win98 install cd)
Yes you can get it to work. You might have to read most of the tips at Betips.net though. I suggest that the easy way to do it would be to go to purplus.com and purchase a ProR5 CD for $38 or Tycommsystems and get the ProCd with a bunch of free stuff. They offer a MACHINE made CD that will read in your CD. Most older CD's won't read burned CD's so that is why you can't use a copy on yours. Like I said you can do a free install but since you are new to beos then it would be alot easier to just get the pro CD and then you know that you can boot.
hi! thnx, atleast sombody replied. k, actually, i have been using beos(i used it when 5 personal was relased, many years ago, and i installed it again on my desktop a couple of weeks ago. But i want to install it on my notebook using the beos4linux package(my notebook has linux and an empty partition) i did the same thing on my desk, installed it on a linux partition first and then moved to its own partition with it's setup. And now the main prob, i am in New Delhi, India, and its difficult to get a pro cd. Besides, BeOS will only be a second OS, i maily use redhat (i like to try out OSs)
Is there any way i can boot beos from dos? (then'll install from linux and boot from dos for the first time, then install it with bootman)
http://www.betips.net/chunga.php?ID=498 has some info. I guess I might try to get the linux version and do what it says. Put the b4lin on your ext2 partion and use an app called installer to move your linux 500meg virtual filesystem to your empty partition. You can boot beos using a dos/win9x/me disk or CD and have two files called loadbeos.com and zbeos. After you boot to dos, run loadbeos and it should boot to beos from there. Then you can use lilo or bootman to choose your OS.
