no audio hardware found??

hi friends, beos identifies my ess allegro driver and gives the chip id as 1988, but i m not able to play any sounds and i get the darned "no audio hardware found" error. and i don't know what to make of the media panel in preferences. pls help me out.
p.s. i deeply appreciate ur help in opening my eyes about the crap that i called a modem till now.

Have you tried install the different ESS drivers found on bebits.com? I have another ess card than the drivers posted on bebits but I tried thoose anyway and they worked. Maybe they will for you to :)
Travis.. yeah i've got the SAME EXACT problem. only in MY media settings it doesn't even give me an option to LOOK for any hardware... keep in touch eh, will let you kno wif i find anything too
