hi friends,
i recently installed beos 5 pe. it shows my hcf conexant internal modem, connected on com2, as a communication device under pci devices. the irqs and memory ranges conform to those under windows. but it still shows only serial1 under /dev/ports.
i read the article about winmodems on bebits which suggested removing pnp os from bios, but as i use a compaq pc with a custom bios, i can't do that either.
i think the chances of getting it to work r slim, but let me know if anyone has some bright ideas.

thanks.

The Modem woes is correctly stated.
There is just about no chance your modem will work.
On bebits there is some winmodem help by I think a
fello from Italy. As we say in Texas Eye-talian. He
put up some tips and drivers that may help, but without an actual software that runs on BeOS we get back to the woes. Seems that even the linux folks can't crack that yet.
You might want to look at this site..

If your modem says a hard controller you should be
able to get your modem to work. Notice how many say
soft or controllerless. They ain't going to work.
Check out Fry's or whoever and get one with a
controller. If it makes you feel any better your
other OS's will work faster with a real modem too.

Forget it, HFC is a controller-less Rockwell winmodem chipset which is *only* supported under Windows because you need a special driver due to the castrated hardware.
