Subject: Java support on BeOS?
Comment:

Does anyone know if BeOS supports web based java? I have tried to go into java based chat rooms with Be but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe there is a browser that has ported to BeOS that supports it?

I haven't found any browsers that support JavaScript. I don't know anyone who has gotten Netscape to run on BeOS but supposedly it is possible.

BeZilla is the counter name for Netscape. Currently, it is under beta. You can try it out.

Opera, is another alternative web browser for BeOS. Opera does offer JavaScript compatible, but it doesn't guarantee full compatibility.

Also, Be and Sun MicroSystem are in talk of an alliance. Eventually, BeOS itself will support JavaScripts and maybe Java as well.

So far...

I'm a *REAL* newbie when it comes to BEOS, but I'm not when talking about JAVA. JAVA just aint Javascript. JAVA needs a JVM, while Javascript only needs a browser. Mozilla has a port for BeOS, and it supports Javascript. But chats wont work - because these need a JAVA virtual machine.
Good luck...

That's what I stated. JavaScript and Java are two different things. Let me re-emphasize my statement as before.
Eventually, BeOS itself will support JavaScripts and maybe Java as well.
