Subject: I cannot load past boot
Comment:
I have a brand new athlon 1600 xp k266a,it was delivered with wind xp,I also
wanted wind 98,so I formated then loaded wind 98,then used partition magic 7
to create a partition for xp,I also made xp fat 32,all was well with the
sysytem until 3 days ago,I started a virus scan using norton,it informed be
during the boot check, that the boot sequence was corrupt and did I wish to
repair,me being stoopid said yes.

Now when I boot,I get stuck in the boot, where it registers my athlon xp then
shows the drive being primary 19gb total 40gb,I have tried everything to get
into c drive, when I run windows 98 boot disk using fdisk,it says no disks
detected,I get the same with xp boot disk,I even used fdisk/mbr as someone
mentioned,I can however access the bios but I cannot see anything that would
aid me in there,I even tried a special programe for boot corruption, but it
gave the same message no disk detected,it did however state I should try and
reset the cmos,

I tried doing as my manual stated with reseting the cmos, but this made no
difference,I wonder if I am reseting cmos incorrectly, because also under the
bios it still says under high performance there was an error while loading
please reset cmos, this mesage has been there since I formated 3 weeks ago,so
am I reseting correctly, what I did was switch off pc move the jumper to slot
1 2 which manual states removes all info, then before I switched on again,I
replaced to slots 2 3,after I rebooted it does say changes have been made to
cmos, what do you wish to do,1 option is f1 which just loads the bios
again,which is of little use.

I would be really gratefull of anyhelp with this,if you can maybe say a way
to create a new boot,or even if i loose all my data on c drive,I only want
my drive back the full 40gb,I got myself into this mess becuse when I tried
to create a rescue disk with part magic 7,there was an error,so I have no
rescue from them,it was a freind of a freinds program so tech support is out
of the question here.

Sorry this post is so long, but i am in despair, being a new pc an all, thank
you Steve.

Kino/Steve,

I'm kinda confused. I read and re-read your post, but I don't see anything in it about BeOS. You mention Windows XP and Windows 98, but there's no mention of BeOS. It looks like you screwed up some logical disk structures. I don't understand what this has to do with BeOS. This doesn't look like a BeOS issue. Do you even HAVE BeOS?

You may haveta reformat & reload everthing back into your drive. It seems like you have an ActiveX or JAVA virus currupting your system. These are very common to hacker attacks. I assume you booted the drive with win98? If it does that again, take it to the company tech & demand they fix it. Please be advised that this is only my opinion. Have you tried DriveUp?
