Name: dominicus
Ive got the PE5 setup and cant seem to get any web access..ive tried using the dhcp (which doesn't seem to work) , tried entering manually (no luck) etc...
I'm on hispeed cable with a 3com509b card (which appears to be set up fine).there doesn't appear to be any sort of tcp-ip either...
Any oddities or tricks i should know about?
thanx-dominicus-

We need to break this down to a smaller question.
First let's test the nic card. Can you ping to another computer?
Did you put a static IP in?
Do you have plug and play disabled?
Did you put something in the hosts blank in the Network, Preferences panel? We need to ping locally first and not to 127.0.0.1 or static number. That will be the most important part. It it works then you have a chance.
Then we will need to know about how you connect.

I know it works...i'm using it now in win31 ..it also works in nt351, nt4, win98, and in dos (arachne)
I have a plug'n'play machine..PnP was active in win98, but obviously not in nt or w31, however, the addresses, interrupts, etc are the same whether i've got PnP running or not.(it's not disabled)
I'm on cable internet..my ip doesnt change, however..i've tried nothing in the hosts, tried my IP name (i have a machine name followed by ISP name , i used the latter)
I do have it connected to a syslynk router, as i also have my macs plugged in and an old 386 also, each of which has a different IP
When i try DHCP and reset i get 0.0.0.0.>mycard PNP...but no connection.
Any help?

OOps , meant linksys..also should mention i.ve tried nothing in the domain section, plus something, plus every permutation of combinations i could think of in every other section...with dhcp i get "site not found" every time, without it it just sits there and never loads....ive been at it for several hours....

also...forgot to mention...cant see any facility for tcp-ip setup...how does it communoicate without it...i dont think tcp-ip can understand BeOS :)

lemme start over.
In BeOS you need to be able to ping something.
First go to Preferences-Network panel. Put something in the host blank.
You will see a place for dns if you know it.
You should see a NIC listed where you can put in IP. If you don't see the nic then you really can't add one unless you have an ISA nic.
What do you see there?
