hi friends. i had been a windows loyalist for my entire life until i stumbled upon the fascinating experience of be. so please help me enjoy it by solving these 2 problems i have -
1, if i boot be from the boot disk, it boots just fine, but if i boot it from windows 98, the screen is just filled with random dots. i am running a compaq presario on intel 810e chipset,64 mb sdram, shared video memory.
2, i can't play any audio. i have ess allegro audio driver.

any suggestions would be very helpful.

Your computer starts a soft config of your computer when you boot into 98. BeOS can't undo some of that when you boot from 98. When you boot from a floppy you say that it all works correctly. Great! You may be able to stop the boot on 98 with F5 and choose fail safe command line. From there you need a file called loadbeos.com and zbeos. Hopefully they will be in the Beos subdir. cd/ to beo and type loadbeos and see if that will work. As for the sound, there is a way to type from Beos terminal I think it is ctl-g or ctl-h and see if the speaker will be routed through the speakers via sound. Also look at Frizbe.net for the audio. On my first install all I had to do was find where to turn on the audio. I think it is at media? It looks like a windows audio mixer and see if it is turned on?

thanks. the first problem was solved by booting win 98 in safe mode command prompt only and executing loadbeos. be works just fine now. haven't sorted out the other one yet.
