Floppy Boot to Bone Fails
Name: Stan Gordon Date: September 24, 2003 at 08:33:13 Pacific OS: BeOS 5.0.3 with Bone-7a CPU/Ram: 166 MHz Pentium, 96 MB ra
Comment:
After installing BONE-7a, I can boot via a hard drive to a stable OS. But when I try to boot using a floppy, the tracker crashes as the desktop is being drawn, and it continues to crash every time I attempt to restart the desktop.
Have you had this problem? How did you overcome it?

Sure, Bone requires a new bootfloppy. Bone won't work on a PE install. Bone flat out doesn't like some machines. Pick one.

Thanks, Jefro.
I used the BeOS 5.0.3 Pro distro with bone 7a installed to make a boot floppy, but it failed. I even tried a boot image on a CD -- no luck. I think it must be your third conclusion that is the problem. Maybe it's time for a new mobo.

Order zeta from yellowtab.com. It is as close to a Be Inc R6 with more bone fixes that you will be able to buy and be legal about it too.

Good suggestion, Jefro. I've checked into Zeta and I'll be ordering the Home Edition the instant it's available.
Summary: With most versions of PE you would have a way to make a bootfloppy. The floppy disk that you use MUST be 100% good since the image of the floppy takes up the entire disk. However there is also a way a...

Summary: The only thing I see is that you may have trouble with the PIO thing. I read somewhere something about it. I will look for exactly what it was. Anyway,,,, With what we hope is a good bootfloppy, when...
