I want to backup my dvds to the hdd.

what is with these new dvds i buy at the store?
they cannot be ripped by dvdrip, handbrake hangs at 5%, and vlc cannot playthem.

i can rip older dvds, promotional dvds, but none new ones that i get. dvdrip sais that cannot read block device. vlc sais in messages
libmpeg2 decoder : invalid picture encountered
main audio output : audio drift is too big (-128000), clearing out
main audio output : mixer start isn't output start (-49152)
handbrake stalls at 5% of doing the dvd, and it is pretty slow. any idea of what i can do here?
