The ESS 1938 chipset is not officially supported under BeOS R5.

For a list of officially supported hardware, see the BeOS Ready hardware lists at
http://www.gobe.com/beos/beosready-intel.html

Is is possible that some third party may have written--or may be in the process of writing--a driver for ESS 1938-based sound cards.

You might try looking through the Drivers section on BeBits.com (http://www.bebits.com).

I would suggest checking out LeBuzz, a Web site dedicated to BeOS audio, at http://www.lebuzz.com, but something seems to be up with their Web site.
