Hi everyone, I am building a new computer that will be BeOS only for a friend of my father's. Can anyone suggest a compatable Celeron motherboard that will support 1.0~1.7GHz? Also, if possible, compatable intigrated NIC and sound would be a big plus: less hardware to buy. Price is an issue, so if buying seperate NIC and sound are a better alternative, I will. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I had a board that cost $49 that was dual processor from Acorp. Really bottom of the barrel but ran BeOS well! It supported Celeron (dunno why you would want it) and PIII's. You could use one and then buy another later? See web pages for dual processors. Otherwise almost any company sells a cheapo board and processor for less than $100.
I got the Acorp dual CPU mobo at a local computer show last weekend. I bought an Intel retail box Celeron 1.1GHz CPU & fan combo, but unfortunately it was dead right out of the box, so now I have to mail it back to the store I bought it from in Phillidelphia, PA. I know it is the CPU because a friend at a local computer shop let me try different RAM, vid card and 2 other CPUs; another 1.1GHz Celeron and a 1.2GHz PIII.
It is just the CPU, as I have seen the mobo running with other processors on it. I contacted the computer shop in PA and they said I have to ship the CPU back directly to Intel as it is an OEM Boxed CPU and Intel is the one that handles the warrenty exchange for the bad CPU. Personally, I think at the computer show they could have exchanged the boxed CPU with another and they could have just shipped it back, but they didn't want to do that.
