Comment:
Hi,

My IBM ThinkPad laptop (Windows 2000 prof.)does not even allows me to do fresh install. I put bootdisk "1" into the slot and Windows 2000 Prof. edition CD ROM into
the slot and boot the system to do the fresh install.
"097728KB OK" came up on the top left corner and "Think Pad" logo at the
left bottom corner.
I heard the "beep" noise.
Ï9990301""appeared on the left top corner.
Then the screen full of diagram appears. "From the left to right, "F1, F2,
F3......... F12"at the buttom and one diskett located on the top of it. And
the above "F1"key, The arrow indicates to push "F1"key and another arrow
signed to push "diskett into the slot" that I interpreted from this diagram.

After I hit F1 key, "I9990305"appears on the screen along with I9990301 and
not going anywhere. Any keys, enter, I hit, keeps making "beep"noise.

This is IBM ThinkPad 600 series laptop used for 4 years never had a major
problem until recently I noticed that "CPU usage" was 100% and down to 45
for a short time and spike up again. 128 MB RAM. Not many applications
loaded. Not so fragmented. 28 process were running at the time which is not
so much. But the last error sign I got was " a piece of system32 software
was missing. Need to put the original CD ROM insert." The one I have is not
the original one so that I decided to do the fresh install and then what
happened.

Please let me know if anybody has a clues on this code or had a same problems I am having. I appreciate it.

Tamie,

I'm not trying to sound flip, but maybe you should post this in the Windows 2000 forum.

This is the BeOS forum.

BeOS is an Operating System from Be, Inc. You're apparently using--or rather, trying to install--Windows 2000, an operating system from Microsoft. These are quite different.

I think that the best source of information for that would be IBM's support web pages.
If all else fails use the recover disk to return it to it's factory condition. It sounds like you have put in the diag disk for testing not the win2000 disk.

I can help with this one. I have put linux and BSD on so many thinkpads that I know the startup inside and out. I have a 755cd I am working on right now with the same problem.
I9990305 and I9990301 mean that an incorrect connection to the hard drive, floppy disk , or cdrom is present. Check your bios to see what it is booting up to, and then check those three devices to insure the proper connection. If all of those fail, you might need a new device. Try booting from both cdrom and the 4 install floppies that come with 2000.
