I have a cable modem with Road Runner, and the Ethernet card they put in is a PCI based CNET Pro200WL. When I boot BeOS 5 PE, in devices it's listed as unknown, and doesn't show up at all in networking. Any ideas how to get this working? Thanks.

Sounds like you don't have a problem
with your cable adapter--it's your
network adapter. I bet it isn't
supported.Here's some hardware compatibility
information from Be, Inc.'s BeOS
Ready Network Adapters list:
The following Ethernet add-in cards and chipsets are supported by BeOS:Specific Ethernet PCI Cards:
Intel EtherExpress at 10/100Mbps
3Com 3c503 at 10 Mbps
3Com Etherlink XL (3c900 and 3c900B) at 10Mbps
3Com Fast Etherlink XL (3c905, 3c905B, and 3c905C) at 10/ 100 Mbps
E-machines ethernet (21145 Tulip ethernet)
Linksys HPN100 Homelink, ActionTec ActionLink (based on the AMD AM79C978)
Linksys LNE100TX - only Revs 1, 2, 3 (based on DEC21040/41 chipsets)
SMC Ez Card 10/100; HP network appliance (based on the RealTek 8139 / Accton EN5038)
almost any NE2000-compatible Ethernet cardsPCI-based Ethernet Chipsets
Digital 21040-, 21041-, and 21143-chipset-based cards:
Kingston KNE40T and KNE 110TX
Linksys 10MB EtherPCI and EtherFast
100BaseTX
Addtron AEF380TX
Farallon FastEtherTX
Accton EN1207-B-TX
Linksys Etherfast 100BaseTX
Netgear FA310TX Rev C
and others...
I recommend getting and using a 3Com
3C905B PCI network adapter. They're
supported not only under BeOS, but
DOS, AIX, Solaris, FreeBSD, Linux,
SCO UNIX, and Windows (both 16-bit
and 32-bit flavours). Also, they're
reliable and cheap. I usually get
mine from eBay from $12 to $20 each.

Andrew, thanks for the tip on the ethernet card. Good info. I can't use the net with BeOS on my new hardware, so I'm gonna have to go get a card supported by BeOS.
I ran BeOS on my old box, loved it. Great OS.
