i use lilo as a booter on my multiboot system, but can't get it to boot directly inot beos. i tried copying zbeos to the /boot dir in linux, and adding some lines to lilo.conf, but to no avail. i've tried several different entries, but not get the desired results. any help on this?
(don't suggest using bootman to boot my OS's: it can't boot DOS from the second drive, like lilo can)PS BeOS (personal) is on a logical partition on the slave drive
Dis you try the boot=/dev/hd(type your partition id here, it may be hdb5) parameter in the lilo.conf file, then execute lilo ? It should work.

Hey james, I'm having the same problem as you... I can boot from the boot disk fine and dandy but I can't get LiLo to boot it without the BeOS system disk. Maybe it's not supported or something I have no idea. I'd just like to get it working =)
Right now I'm have Win95/Mandrake7.1/BeOS5 on my system.
And I have this as my LiLo configuration:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
vga=normal
default=linux
keytable=/boot/us.klt
lba32
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=linux
root=/dev/hda6
read-only
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=failsafe
root=/dev/hda6
append=" failsafe"
read-only
other=/dev/hda1
label=dos
table=/dev/hda
other=/dev/fd0
label=floppy
unsafe
other=/dev/hda5
label=be
anyone see whats wrong with it?
I've also tried:
image=/boot/Zbeos
label=be
root=/dev/hda5Still no go... anyone have any ideas? I'd like to get it booting without the floppy if possible.. if not it's not the end of the world.
Are we assuming that the OS image, i.e., Zbeos, has been placed in the /boot directory? If yes, I'm surprised, since it works for me very well!
Most important of all I am using Grub that comes with Linux
Use at your own risk...these worked for me...but may NOT work for you....in any case i am not liable for loss or damage of any kind to whomsoever.
I did it by following the foll steps.
1) install BeOS on windows partition (C:).
2) Start BeOS
3) Run Installer ( its under Apps).
4) Ask it to install itself to a different partition on the first drive(before installing format that partition as a BeOS partition).
5) Boot Linux
6) Change grub settings to load the BeOS partition
7) Boot windows and uninstall the BeOS
8) I was all set and running.
