BeOsPE 5.0.3 and KEYBOARD

Hi!
Installed PE5 yesterday night. My keyboard doesn't work, no apparent reason at all, no conflicts of any kind. In "devices" Beos states that the keyboard is "disabled for unknown reasons" and so does "Pentium" (??).

Soooo:

- I started troubleshooting by moving the mouse from Ps2 to Com, no result.
- Did the shift back no result.
- Changed the original "Microsoft Natural Keyboard" for a "Logitech Internet keyboard" no result.
- Tried to change the repeat rate and speed rate of the keyboard no result.
- Tried to reconfigure my keymap no result.
- Tried to disable PNP and Usb on the BIOS no result.
- Tried to boot Beos under "safe mode" plus disable "call to BIOS" and PNP no result.
...

FURTHERMORE.
Everytime I try to reboot the entire system crashes (even in Safe mode), no problem if I just shut down.

...
Is there a way out?

p.s.:

I have a Siemens MMX233/96mb/4 + 40gb/WinME/SuSe Linux 8.0.
ME resides on the 4gb disk while SuSe is on a 16gb partition on the 40gb disk (Ext3 journaled). I have a free 15gb FAT32 partition on the which I installed Beos.

I dual-boot ME and SuSe with lilo but, in order to avoid eventual conflicts I have preferred creating a floppy for Be.

Can someone suggest any workaround?

TIA

Lorenzo

Hi all again,

An update on my problem (yeah! I keep roaming around the various Beos-related sites and forums in the quest for knowledge :-)):

While on BeOs Tips Server I found the following message from a user:
- quote -
"...Of course, the problem might be different in your case. It might be a BIOS issue (I hope you don't have a Phoenix BIOS) ..."
- unquote -

Currently I HAVE Phoenix Bios on my machine. Is there a known issue between BeOs and such brand? Is there a workaround? Or should I just lay down and avoid?

TIA

Lorenzo

Hallo again,

Another update:

I just discovered that the keyboard works under Safe mode. I get this as a positive thing but, when I'm back under normal operating conditions the darn thing dies again, no matter what I try.
So is there anyone willing to share his knowledge on the matter with me? How can I troubleshoot BeOs until I catch the culprit of my keyboard's paralysis? Is there something like "extensions" which BeOs loads at startup? Where is it located? How do I operate in order to disable it one by one until I get the one which, not being loaded, will not prevent the keyboard from working?

Please understand that I laid my hands on BeOs two days ago so I virtually know nothing about it. I so need all the tips I can get. I think I have been reading all that I could find on the matter of BeOs + keyboards + troubleshooting these days, but I really did not find anything decisive. Anyone, anyone?

TIA

Lorenzo

Wow, I can't read that much.
Things to try.

Disable plug and play in bios.
Use a PS/2 mouse.
Try using different safe mode options and see if just one will help.
See betips.net for more ideas search keyboard.
You might have to remove pci/isa cards to free up resources. (last ditch since it will kill your windows/linux install.)
