Since Be went out of business in 2001, I assumed my ThinkPad 770Z would run it at 366Mhz, in <320Mb RAM, Since it was still considered relatively new in 2001. But I started looking at this forum, and it looks like there are some new versions. What are the differences and system requirements?

BeOS Doesn't appear to need a separate partition, since it can be booted from the Windows 9x desktop! Is this correct? If the DOS compatibility patch is installed, can BeOS be booted from Windows ME?

Where can I get the last version of BeOS from Be?

There are basically two ways to install the actual Be Inc product they called BeOS.

One is from a cd to a partition. The other used a neat trick that a few older linux's used. It can run from a file based partition. That was commonly termed BeOS PE or personal y still have a version for download.edition. See Bebits.com for that and a few of the different versions. Be warned that to burn cd's you may need nero or linux to put the files on a cd correctly. PE can run if you have enough room. Run defrag first. Basically you boot command.com out and replace it to boot to BeOS.

There are a few versions that can even run from a live cd for testing. See the Zeta site they still have a version posted.

An open sourced version still can't be used easily unless you know a bunch.

I think you can reboot to dos in ME and run the batch file to boot to beos. There are a few boot floppy images out there too. A floppy boot is very fast also.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
