Comment:
I've posted about this problem here before about this probem - BeOS doesnt boot on my machine (athlon XP) - it just restarts itself during the process. I tried the patches as advised, but i stil can't get anywhere. What can i do now?? Thanks Alex
Here is a site that has the minibe CD iso. It is a fixed beos cd that you can use to edit your kernel_intel file. DON'T USE that Kpatch script just boot into the minibe distro and use an app called diskprobe to edit the second instance of GenuineIntel to AuthenticAMD. NOTHING else. I have been working on a diffenent patch but have been swamped. You could also get a Beos R4 or R4.5 CD (purplus.com has the R4 for $8 if you don't want to burn a CD) There is a trick to running beos from a cd but it is easy. http://www.s82.nl/
I had the exact same problem but after a little searching I found a thread on a forum where there was this really sharp guy(don't remember his name but he seemed to be quite famous in the BeOS community) who had come up with a very simple solution to the palomino "bug". It's as simple as installing pe from windows and as soon as the image is installed you fire up a Hex-editor and load the image-file created by the installation. When the image is opened, use the search-function to search for the string GenuineIntel . This string should be found twice, you then simply change the string from GenuineIntel to AuthenticAMD . Now reboot into BeOS and make an install on any partition you like. You now should have SSE enabled and working like a charm :)
Happy BeOSing! ;)
P.S I believe that it is quite important that this is made on a fresh installation, in other words, a BeOS-installation you haven't booted yet. Might work even if the installation is not fresh but that is beyond my knowledge as I've never tried it.
Oops, looks like my memory did not serve me very well there, a few corrections has to be made. First of all, the string GenuineIntel is not found twice, it's found about 5 times or so but thats not important. What is important is that it is only the second string(ie. when you do a search for GenuineIntel it is the second hit that you should change) you should alter to AuthenticAMD , do not touch the others. Secondly, there is one more thing needed and that is a modified bootdisk which can be found here

write that image to a floppy and use that to boot.
I hope I got everything right this time :>
