Subject: beos setup and internet sharingOS: windows 95CPU/Ram: pentium 2 / 266 mhz / 32 |
Comment: i have 3 questions: 1)Can i install be os personal edition to a windows 95 pentium 2 266 mhz computer with 32 mb of ram? i went to bebits, but at the download site it only had limitations for pentium 4 with over 1 gb in ram. 2)What is partitioning? I dont have to do anything to the harddrive if i install this or anything correct? I can just run it from windows? (I have 4 serapate 2gb harddrives on it) 3)Can i network beos to have access to the dsl connection which is on my other computer which has windows me on it (i cant do this with the current win95)? Would this be painless, or what troubles might i encounter? Thanks

Reply: (edit)#1 ? "This version of BeOS won't boot on computers with Athon XP or Duron processors with the SSE instruction set, most early Pentium IVs, or systems with more than 1 GB of RAM" Thus, your computer ought to work shouldn't it? #2, That Personal Editon (PE) puts a file only your windows or should you choose linux that is 500 meg. It will be named image.be. Inside it will be a formatted Befilesystem that contains the BeOS needed. You don't actually run it from windows but you reboot into BeOS. #3 It can connect if you have a supported NIC and you can follow some instructions. Many people find that their NIC isn't supported. You can use a proxy on another computer and point your BeOS machine to it.
