OS: Windows 2000 SP3
CPU/Ram: Athlon64 3000+ / 1024 MB
Comment:
Hi, I installed BeOS long time ago, it was a 50 mb download and installed to a 500 mb file... I am wondering:

1) are there any new versions out ? can I download the 500 mb version (few years ago you had to buy it) for free ? where?

2) are there apps developped for it now?

3) does it have any support for x64 ?

thnx

There are some sort of new versions out. Most are either patched or a possible leaked version. See bebits dot com for some of the improved R5's. See yellowtab dot com for their R5.1 version. There is a free demo of zeta (yellowtab's). They are still working on an open sourced beos named haiku.

Most apps are on bebits or bezip. I have found some on tucows and even pcworld sites.

No real support for x64. It can run if patched on some cpu's and unpatched on others. The AMD opteron team claimed to me that they tested beos on their chip. It runs in 32 bit mode.

yT has said that they're planning on releasing a 64 bit version soon..how they define soon, however...
Jefro, i thought that the yT demo was the 'live cd', or was that what you're referring to..it's actually an R6.1 version (although i know how to change the verion in Filetypes too :)

Sure, it was a live CD demo. Funny thing, it doesn't work on my laptop.

Almost all of the newer BeOS's out there can be run as a live CD too with only a few keystrokes.

Yeah, I couldn't get the Zeta Live cd to work on my machine is. The really funny thing is that there's a guy in the Yellowtab forums who's actually running Zeta and the live CD apparently wouldn't boot on his machine either. They must have not put much into it. On this machine I actually get farther into the boot up process with Max or PhOS then I do with Zeta live.
