Hi,

I'm trying to get BeOS Personal Edition up and running after having someone inadvertently expose my WinME system to the Klez virus. Here are various things I need help addressing:

1. I need a good S3 Savage/IX driver. I tried the BeSavage+ driver with a default install and it just about friend my laptop screen (turned all white and I had to pull power and battery). I haven't tried the original BeSavage driver yet. Any suggestions?

I did get color up in VESA mode, but it's kinda slow and I'd like a more "native" driver (if possible).

2. I have a PCMCIA WLAN card by LinkSys and need to get info on how to set this up. I found a remark in some forum that someone got their Prism/2 compliant card going with BONE 7a.

3. I downloaded BONE 7a and installed it and now Tracker crashes on start-up with a segmentation fault (and every time you try to restart the desktop). Obviously, I can't get any applications (not even Terminal) to run with Tracker down, so I have no way of trying to figure out how to uninstall BONE 7a for the time being. Any way to fix this or do I have to completely uninstal BONE.

4. Is DANO a BeOS Personal Edition or Pro Edition version?? (Can I load it on a Win32 partition)

Any help with any/all of these would be great.

Thank you!!

1. Dunno. S3's don't do well in BeOS.
2. pcmica support is limited in the official 5.03 release. You could mine BeIA or Dano5.1d for pcmica but both are leaked versions and not fully tested. Bone7a will most likely crash a 5.0PE install. The readme tells how to uninstall. Better to just reload the PE. Bebits.com has some apps on pcmcia and Frizbe.com has a hardware matrix that may help.
3. Start with a PE and then get the patches to 5.01 and 5.03 installed. Leave it like that or buy a pro edition.
4 Dano is a pro edition that was to be released. It has a broken be open network enviroment but has some good drivers and some missing. Get a Pro 5.0 then upgrade to the 5.03 patches. Then on another partiton go for your Dano and bone7a.
