I know that BeOS is not SUPPOSED to be
able to install on PowerPC processors
that are G3 or above, but I really like BeOS
and would like to use it on my Powerbook
G3 Wallstreet Edition. It MAY work with
Virtual PC 4.0, but I hear that even IF I
could get it up that way, it would be fairly
unstable.

Does anyone know of a way to make
BeOS run on any of the new G3/G4 Mac
processors and hardware? Preferably
natively?

Thanks,

CrasH

Emu: that was a jackass responce. i have two
computers. one of them, ironically, is a
PowerBook G3 Series Wallstreet. The other is
a 900MHZ AMD with Debian Linux. Can you say
"linux"? does it hurt your brain? MacOS is an
excellent OS, so is BeOS and Linux. Microsoft
is the only one i can't stand. Now, go away,
that was stupid.

CrasH: well, i wanted to install BeOS on my
Wallstreeet as well. I'm sorry to say that i
do not think it is possible. Apple kind of
stuck it to Be a few times there. I've tried
R5 and "Developer Release 2" (not sure what
VERSION, it came with my Be Programmer's
Guide). If you just want to leave MacOS (i
don't), then you could install
LinuxPPC/Debian/Yellowdog/MkLinux on it.
Sorry, someone please prove me wrong...

I actually had the Mac dualbooting Mac OS 9.1 and SuSE Linux PPC Edition. Two other partitions were on the drive, one for each of my virtual machines--Windows 98 and BeOS. I KNEW before I started that VPC 4.0 was not SUPPOSED to run BeOS, but take a look at all the listed OSes it supports and THEN they also have an OTHER choice (when prepping configuration for a new OS) and BeOS is about all that's left.

The system booted with the CD in the drive and it TRIED to start the BeOS installer, but it froze up. I knew it wasn't SUPPOSED to work, but I have to try anyway.

IF anyone finds a way that DOES work, let me know. Not that it'll be of immediate help as I'm selling my Powerbook G3 (look for it on e-bay; just search by seller, MasterGHP)
but I would be curious as to know HOW it was done should someone accomplish it.

Thanks to all who helped

CrasH
