OS: WfW311,NDO3.2,W98,NT351,N
CPU/Ram: Pentium 1 , 48 megs
Comment:

Although ive got some familiarity with the mac version, ive no clue about the intel version.
I downloaded the r5 Personal eedition , and it said 'for windows'. I thought it was an OS..why should it need windows at all?
Furthermore, it said i need to make a boot disk from the utilities if running NT (i am )...what utilities? Do i need to start the install from a command prompt, or how?
The lack of info on basic installation is astonishing...Anyone wanna help me out here?
thanx

Ok, the PE uses install shield to install beos to a virtual filesystem. Install shield is a windows application and that is why you need to have a windows install. There are many ways to run beos either as a standalone install or from a live CD.

The way a normal windows install works is to boot from windows. With NT you can't kick out command.com like loadbeos.com usually does. So you need to make a floppy. Seems that there is a folder after you used the installshield that has stuff like makebootfloppy.

While you are at it why not post the specs of the box you wish to install to and the OS too.

OK that cleared up a lot! Thanx...
And surrre ok..looks as ive got a 100% BeOS compatible box! P1 with s3virge dx/gx and 3com 3c509b card..havent checked bout the soundblaster but i expext a sb16 would work fine..This is , in fact the box ive tried all the os's out on as its so compatible (win95a didn't like it, and havent tried redhat yet, but otherwise..even geos didn't complain ..too much.)
As to the boot floppy, i imagine i could just have these boot utils in another system commander folder, it'd just switch to them whenever then....
thanx

If you have beos installed to a partition then it should boot from system commander. If you are running a virtual file like the PE does then you can do any number of things. I suggest that if you like PE then you would like bebits.com and get the developer edition. It is PE but has some newer stuff.

couldn't find it on bebits (just loads too much stuff)Whats the proper filename of the developer edition, so i can search?
and yes its that 512 meg virtual file..did find that installer inside beos...what does it do?looked to me as it was going to transfer beos to a regular partition...didn't have the space ready...
Cant transfer the bootdisk to anything tho , it's in a format unreadable by anything (even beos can't read it) so looks as i have to boot from the floppy (hate having to do that)

How do you wish to boot? CD, floppy or bootmanager?
