I recently installed the pro version of BeOS and am using a 3C90X 10/100 NIC. I am able to ping the computer but not a networked device I have connected to it(MX-2424 w/100MPS). (It pings fine in windows) I was wondering what is a correct host name for my BeOS computer and or Domain Name... I am using static IP. Everything appears to be correct except for my inability to ping this harddisk machine. I am using a crossover cable to ping peer to peer. any suggestions will be helpful.

Cool, a multitrack recorder! Host & domain
shouldn't matter on a standalone network. What IP
addresses are you using? Looks like you could set
the PC to 192.168.0.16 and the recorder to "scan
for next available" -- if the two are talking, this
should force an error message. Otherwise maybe
check cabling? Or maybe subsitute a 2nd PC for the
recorder to verify the BeOS end is good.BTW, it looks like your remote control software
won't work in BeOS yet (uses Java), though this
screenshot is revealing:

(notice the yellow titlebars, scrollbars, etc.)Apparently Tascam likes BeOS, so maybe they'd be
receptive to a tech support email? You might also
try the lists on LeBuzz.com.

Are you still having trouble with connecting the machine
to the mx2424?BTW, if you need further help, please download BeShare
from http://www.bebits.com and pop onto the main server
at beshare.bentonrea.com. There is always someone there
24/7 who is able to help a newcomer to BeOS.-Chris Simmons

I'm having a similar problem. I'm running
BeOS 5 personal edition, although it pulled
it out of the image file and into its own
partition using Installer. However, it
can't seem to get on the network. I have a
3Com 3c905c 10/100 NIC which works
perfectly under WindowsXP and FreeBSD. It
shows up in FreeBSD under Networking, and I
configured it to use a static IP
(192.168.0.3). From the terminal I can
ping 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.3, but no
other address on the network, not even the
gateway. Netpositive also fails to connect
to any server, whether I use IP addresses
or URL's. And Help would be greatly
appreciated, as I'd love to get BeOS
working on this computer (even if it is
just for play!) Thanks a lot, and please
e-mail me any response (cpc35 AT pacbell
DOT net). Thanks again.-Chris
