Hi,

Im new to beos. I installed Beos PE on my machine but i couldnt get it to start. I went into the Boot options on startup (i did startup from Beos boot floppy)and selected "Dont call bios" and "use fail safe video mode". After that it started up. i got the BESavage+ driver from beBits, installed it. When i started the computer next time (again from floppy) the blue screen appeared, and all the icons appeared as well, but the desktop did not load. The hard disk activity stopped there. I reset my machine, and this time went into the boot options and and selected only "use fail safe video mode". This time all the icons loaded and the desktop appeared as well, but the mouse pointer or the icons did not show up.

My computer's config is
P2 300 Mhz
64 mb sdram
32mg Savage 4 card on a pci slot

I disabled PnP option in my bios. Still does not work. I also chose to mount only beos disks. Still no improvement. I dont have any hardware conflicts either. My beos is not installed on a permamnent partition.

Thanks a lot for your help

You might want to check the BeOS Ready List for x86 systems to make sure your hardware is supported:

There's also an amusing (amusing because of the reason the problem exists) and much misunderstood issue with any AMD processors that use the Palomino core. This issue has already been covered quite thoroughly in this forum, though.

I think Be had a lot of trouble with S3 and maybe S4 video cards. That I suspect is your touble. Everything else that you have said points to that I think. The rest of the system should work fine. You might have to check frizbe and get a $10 video card that works and undo the bsavage driver. You might have to try the old driver. http://bebits.com/app/400 and make sure you read the comment about where to put the files and never unzip a beos file on another system. Unzip only on the beos disk.
