Subject: BeOS installed but does not boot.
Comment:
I managed to download and install BeOS, but realised i would have to use the 'boot-floppy' disk to get into the O/S because i run Windows Me. (does not support the Start Beos shortcut) Anyway, i creaated the floppy disk, and restarted. The BeOS logo screen stays up for a hile but then my computer just restarts itself. Why is this?
System specs;
AMD athlon xp 1600+
256mb ram
SiS 630/730 agp graphics
SiS 7018 sound
40GB hard drive.

Thanks for any help
Alex

The problem is with the AMD. Someone goofed somewhere and beos tries to load up the stuff for an intel. Read this link for a patch to get you going. http://forums.begroovy.com/showthread.php?s=d5562389a4656dff71786c1336276c53&threadid=3381 Disregard all the radon talk
The patch is here
http://forums.begroovy.com/showthread.php?s=d5562389a4656dff71786c1336276c53&threadid=3381
If you have trouble just post on begroovy to euan or zidag.

The diskprobe is an editor app in BeOS. That assumes that you can get to your kernel_intel file. You can not. (Because you can't boot into beos) What you need is to read in that thread and download either patcher for windows. Two guys made similar ways for one to run from within windows a way to patch your image.be file. Then if the patcher is good you should be able to boot correctly into your new Be OS. Should you not be able to get the patcher to work there are other ways to fix your files. Try the patcher on that thread and not other methods! You want SSE to work! Trust me, it is a lot faster that way.

OK, I forgot to ask. Can you choose a BIOS (I did say BIOS) option to disable SSE?

Thanks for the information. As for the BIOS, there is no option for SSE, but i'll try some of those patches and see how it goes.
Thanks

Hi. ok i tried one patch, and had no luck as it said wrong version or file alredy patched. So i tried another (simpatch_win32.zip) and it patched the image.be file with AuthenticAMD ok, but the PC still reboots itself when the BEOS logo screen appears :(
I have no idea what to do next..

Ok, Seems that those guys may have a little bit of work left on the patch. First I would do an uninstall of the PE and do a new install. (patch may goofed something other up). Which PE do you have? 5.01 or did you get it from a ProCD or the 5.04beosonline CD?
I have been trying to make a patcher for the installshield cab file but ain't there yet.
A few ways to go here.
1. Can you put that HD into a different box?
2. Do you have a CD-R/RW?

We want to get you going. Don't give up just yet.
After you reinstall it then try that patch. Then
ask on a new post and there are other ways to get
it to work.
