I'm assuming you downloaded the normal PE version, correct?
It will not install on XP or NTFS

If you are not afraid to partition you drive you should get ahold of the MAX edition from Bebits.com.

If you decide you like the OS try to get your hands on the Pro edition, you should be able to get it for $20-30. I'm really glad I did.

For now stay away from Zeta/Dano/PhOS they are still buggy and slow. R5 is a very well polished OS that works great.

I run R5 Pro on a 600mhz Celeron with no problems, posting from it now. I had Win98 on this system and it was much slower than BeOS.

You have a problem with the file download. The PE should not give you that error.

You can not use the PE version on the new XP NTFS. The reader for ntfs is for NTFS 4 not NTFS 5.1.

Your solution would be to make a new partition and format it in fat. The other choice might be using a cd like BeOS Max and run it as a live CD.

Sources of help include wiki.bebits dot com and betips dot net.

You can download the BeOS Developer Edition for free and make your own CD although it is not really very easy and newer burners will require that you have Nero if CDRwin does not work for the image you must create (beos uses it's own filesystem so it's not as simple as making a ISO)

You must register then download. Read the directions and when it boots press space bar and find the CD, then install :D

Oh, BTW, it works with all processors now, but you still need to have a spare partition or a extra hard drive. Partition Magic does this so does the system rescue CD...
