Comment: I am trying to setup my ethernet card under BeOS so I can access my LAN. I have a NetGear FA311 networking card, PCI. However, no matter how much I fiddle with the netwroking preferences under BeOS it constantly tells me that the interface fails to initialize. However, the card is recognized in the Devices list. I think that the problem might be that it only allows me to choose from NE2000 and some 3com card, both of which are ISA and my card is PCI. Can anybody please help me? Thank you.

Reply: (edit)There are two steps to getting a card to work. One is when the OS boots and looks for cards. Secondly is when the OS looks for a driver for that card. If you find the card in the Devices panel I think that is only the first step. Then you need a driver and the driver must support the chipset ID that the card reported. BeOS might use different drivers for different cards based on chipset ID. I don't think that is what you have but look at the link and see what others say. Users here have suggestions. http://hardware.frizbe.net/info.php?product=210&category=29&sub=34 You might have to hack the driver if a new chipset number has been burned on the card ID. Most BeOS super hackers just say get a realtech or other supported card. They are only like $9 now so it isn't worth the time to hack ever card.
