Comment: I've just installed BeOS 5 PE, I launch it from Windows, the copmuter reboots, the boot screen with icons goes fine, but then after the last icon i get a grey screen and nothing else happens, hard drive continues to work for a few seconds, but then it stops and that's it. What could be wrong? I have a K-6 200MHz CPU, 192 Megs of RAM, SoundBlaster 128; some Realtec network adapter and an old 2 Meg S3 video card. I use Windows 2000.

Reply: (edit)That would be the last icon meaning BeOS is trying to mount the file system. While many people including me have BeOS on a NTFS drive, many more including me could not get a NTFS drive to work. How about using the disk managment tools in 2000 to make a new partition in fat. It doesn't have to be huge. Instead of installing onto the 2000 partition could you install from windows to the new fat partition? If not try to copy the image.be file to the new partition and then use a boot floopy to boot to BeOS. Press the space key as soon as you see the blue boot screen. Choose the BeOS partition. (kinda assumes you have a NTFS partition doesn't it?)

Reply: (edit)Maybe I didn't give you the best advice. I now see the S3. You may have to select the safe mode my pressing the space bar when you see the blue icon screen. From there select safe mode. Use fail safe video I think. It will goooo slooooooow. They never could get the S3 to work very well. You may have to ditch it.
