I have BeOS installed on a hacked i-opener (for info see linux-hacker.net). I've decided to use a SMC USB to Ethernet adapter for my network connectivity. Since BeOS does not support USB to Ethernet, I am using the only third party drivers I am aware of, from kabunkie.de (also can be found on bebits.com.
Intially after installation, I couldn't connect to the internet. With DHCP enabled, BeOS was getting an IP from my router (including bogus DNS address of 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3 - router is .1, as you probably guessed). But, connectiong was beyond me.
I put it to rest and came back the next day. I played around with what little settings one has control of under the Network settings, and for a time it worked. Although, download times were awful. Any web page, no matter how graphically complex would take many minutes to completely download. I played around with the settings some more and now it doesn't work again. I can't seem to reproduce the configuration that got it to work.
My hub shows a connection. The Ethernet adapter shows a connection. BeOS recognizes the adapter and the router and populates DHCP settings. Manually setting network settings, including DNS servers for my ISP does not work. Pings to anything other than the i-o's IP address time out.
I am at a loss. And new to BeOS. Any ideas?
Mike

Mostly you need to know more about your router.

There is also a hosts file that you can use if you are having DNS problems. Most people don't assign a name to their box and should too.
From your browser use the 192.168.0.1 as a proxy server IP. Need a port number too.
