Hi all,
in former times I already asked this question.

May someone help me? If I boot BeOS for installing it with CD after the last icon the computer stops.
Safe modes also donīt help. In the debug mode it says init22: init23: and then its finished.
A few lines up its said, there is no swap space available, so i bought an 2,5īī adapter and installed BeOS via my desktop computer to the notebook harddisk.
While booting there is no warning with swap, but the computer also stops at 22 and 23.

Somebody told me to press the "Fn"+"F4" again and again while booting (its for switching the internal and/or the external display). That helped to him to get the grey installation screen.
After that he installed another driver for the video card and then it worked.

But not for me...:(((

Technical data for the notebook:

Thank you for reading and help!

Bye,
NoXS

The standard blurb goes like this. Disable plug and play, disable usb ports, disable unused com ports, might even check for an updated bios. (last resort)

I suspect the S3. The switch to external may have a slim chance. Did you put an external monitor on it and try it?
If you have tried all safe modes then no amount of keys will work after that. My only suggestion would be to try one of the newer distro's that have a vesa program already installed. Befaq or Beosonline.
Dunno, otherwise it seems it should work. There was some thread on osnews.com that talked about some bios's that just didn't work.

Hmpf...

the problem is, that the notebook doesnīt have a BIOS like a normal computer has.

It only has a diagnostic partition on the hard disc.

The BIOS works like an application for windows.

So what to do?

Thx

I think the problem is still with the S3. I had microchannel IBM's with disk based bios'. Not much differnet really. Still a lot of mainfraims use that still.

Take the laptop to a school or thrift shop and take a tax credit. Go to Frizbe.net and get a more standard computer that may work. Older IBM's seem to work well.

Otherwise you will need to get different distro with maybe some S3 or Vesa support?

Hi,

the S3.....right....

But I canīt understand why VESA doesnīt works...

With Unix and Linux the S3 Aurora 64V+ works fine with VESA.

It has to work with BeOS (PE/PRO/DEV), hasnīt it?

Vesa is not a 100% held to standard by chip makers.
I have no reports of an S3 working very well with BeOS. The Be company gave up after problems with S3's poor design.

Hmmm...okay,
then I leave it alone.

And still run OpenBSD on the notebook.

Its a pity.

Thx
