If you have about $100 to spare. I think the USRobotics external Sportster Classic 56K is an excellent one to work with both Windows and BeOS. In addition, an external modem relieves CPU stresses considerably.

After all, a "Win-Modem" is a chipless card only to be run by software under Windows.

The Linux community is actually working on this project known as "Lin-Modem".

As for now, you're software-based modem will not work under BeOS. You can browse through Be's main sire and look for the "Hardware compatibility List".
