BeOS 5 PE Reboot problem

Comment:
Hi - I've just installed BeOs 5 PE on a Compaq Deskpro EP - Win 98, Celeron 333, 4 Gig HD, 64MB RAM, Matrox G100 Video. BeOs loads without problem from Win 98 but I can't get it to reboot without hitting the power button. When I select Reboot within BeOs, the Shutdown screen appears and the OS closes down but it will not reboot. The computer beeps - 1 long and 2 short beeps and then freezes with the BeOS Shutdown Status still on screen. The same thing happens when selecting Shutdown from within BeOS. The OS closes down and the Reboot button appears but when I click on it I get the beeps and the system freezes. Any help will be appreciated.

Sounds like a hibernate issue. I think that there is a tip on betips.net about the power management and laptops. You may have to look at bios options to choose different power settings or standards. There is also somewhat of a power setting/choice somewhere in BeOS. You may have to edit a file. If you can try to disable the plug and play too if you haven't already.
There may be better tips there too.

I can't say for sure, someone may have a better answer. Some machines just don't do a complete reboot. I know it says it is rebooting and lookes like it but some things have not changed states or lost it's charge. It is always best to turn the power off and wait a few seconds before powering back on. Those (reboot troubled) machines are difficult to add devices sometimes because of that too. Very difficult if you are expecting a reboot and the devices aren't in the correct state to load.
