Hello All,
I am very new to beos, but I managed to get it installed alright, and the booted via boot disk into BeOS.
All is well, apart from two things, the first is that my PCI ALS4000 Soundcard will not work, no matter how much I fiddle around in the device properties, I even have downloaded Sound Blaster drivers to try, because the ALS4000 is meant to be sound blaster compatible.. I have had no luck with my search for ALS drivers (of any version) either, has anyone got any ideas?
Next, is not so important, but annoying all the same, and that is that CodyCam will not detect my USB Logitech Quickcam express, and I havent found any drivers for that either.. Any sugestions??
Well, thank you in advance for any sugestions, however small..
Kind Regards,
Lee Nutter

Perhaps checking for hardware compatibility before
you install is a good idea. Go to Be's website to
see if any of your hardware is compatible. The
link is http://www.be.com/support/guides/
beosreadylist_intel.html.

Alas you have run into one of the biggest problems of BeOS -- lack of driver support.
If you can program, maybe you could "borrow" the drivers from a Linux distribution and rewrite them for BeOS. If not, I'm afraid your stuck to the whims of a 3rd party. That's mainly the reason BeOS is supposed to work alongside other OSes instead of in direct competition with them - BeOS has a lot of catching up to do.
But your safest bet is to assume at best that only standard well-known devices have drivers written for them, and I know this is a dumb solution, but to save you grief if you use BeOS, get those standard devices.
Hopefully driver support will increase when hardware developers realize there are other OSes out there besides Windows :-)
