3c589D network problems

I've installed BeOS 5.0.1 PE on my Thinkpad i1410 twice now. It installs fine, and I have applied the 5.0.3 patch. Software runs great, and I'm really impressed with the OS. However, I cannot get my NIC to work.

I have a PCMCIA 3c589D card, and the i1410 has the O2Micro 6833 PCMCIA controller. I've tried running the Network Preferences, but it always tells me that it fails to initialize the interface.

I've run 'cardctl ident' and it shows me nothing on the card. However, 'cardctl status' shows me that the card is in fact inserted (it shows "5V 16-bit card"). I've tried setting up network preferences to use "NE2000 compatible" and "3c503" -- neither works.

And, here's the kicker: after booting back into Windows 98, I can no longer use the NIC in Windows either. My Card Services window shows a card installed, but it does not know what it is, so it doesn't load the 3c589D drivers.

Anyone else seen this behavior? Any tips on what to try next? I cannot get Windows to recognize the card at all and will probably have to rebuild my system AGAIN. Ugh....

Would BeOS Pro 5.0 solve this problem or not?

Help! :)
